The KOI Music Festival, 2010

Last Saturday, a large underground/music community presence was at Kitchener. Ten indoor venues, plus one outdoor stage, were set up, and about 140 bands performed throughout the downtown core. In short, KOI Music Fest was awesome.

I arrived just before the band Street Pharmacy began their set at The Wax, but I had some time to walk around and check out the merch tables outside. I bought a funky purple t-shirt from London ON band Mean Tangerine, then headed on out to The Wax...

These two bands were also on TV recently on the show disBand. In short, Street Pharmacy were approved by the industry panel, Mean Tangerine were not. :(  In the end, Street Pharmacy are still an independent band.

Anyway, they rocked.

...I also managed to sneak in a photo of Max Off of Mean Tangerine.

I wandered over to look for the outdoor stage, and wound up at The Hive. There I stayed and watched bands This City, Divided and From East to Exit play their sets. Outside, The Cobrahawks were playing...

(More of the crowd at the outdoor venue...)

I didn't get the chance to see Die Atlantic, Mean Tangerine, Die Mannequin, or Blind Witness play live (Blind Witness didn't make it to K-W after all...), but regardless, I had the opportunity to discover different bands/artists, and different places in my hometown that I had never explored before, like The Wax or The Hive. I hope KOI happens again next year for sure!
