Energy Efficient Fail!

Before I go into my rant, here's a snippet of Teddy Bear Picnic Horror (and again on the site).

Ok, now on with the rant;

I did a couple of loads of laundry last night when, all of a sudden, there was a VERY LOUD clicking noise going on during the spin cycle. My mom and I tried to figure out what the problem was, but in the end the repair guy came in to inspect it (here's my mom's version of the story). Long story short, the "energy efficient" washer got a bad diagnosis - it may only have a couple more months left.

I found a video on youtube featuring a guy with the same model explaining why these Kenmore Washers suck so bad.

                   

My question is, what is the point of Energy Efficient washing machines if they only last for 5-8 years???
