TCAF 2010 (Part 1)

Yesterday, my friend Miroki and I attended TCAF (Toronto Comic Arts Festival), held at the Toronto Reference Library. I was the first to arrive, and as soon as I had recovered from the elements of the craptastic weather, disorientation had settled in.

For instance,

...the signage pictured here (I apologize for the horrid quality of this pic, but I must address this). Now, while the sign "Webcomics Pavilion etc." made sense, the second sign was...a bit misleading. Since I'm clearly not a native of Toronto and know nothing of how the Library works, I assumed that, with the way it was written and where that arrow was pointing, that there was another section of stairs that supposedly led to the second floor. Long story short, I ended up in the basement, where some dude was talking on his cell phone (awkward) and there were clearly no exhibitors. Awesome.

Back to the main floor I went...

Eventually Miroki and I ran into each other, and we continued to wander around and talked to some of the exhibitors at the festival. Throughout the week I'll feature a creator whom I met at TCAF, and also feature their current works.

Today I'll feature Miriam Libicki of Real Gone Girl Studios, her booth pictured below.

  (Miriam Libicki, Mike Yoshioka)

Based in Vancouver, Real Gone Girl sells books, comics, and hand screen printed t-shirts. At the booth they also had an assortment of magnets, patches, and prints. One of my favorites was the Madaline-themed army print. Libicki has also created and self published her comic book, jobnik!, where she enlists herself in the Isreali Army.

To be continued...

jobnik!
